SCPC Podcast: Perfectly United Talk 6, One Purpose

March 9th, 2008 · 2 Comments

In this bible talk from 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 by Steve Cree, we see Paul intensifying the challenge to the Corinthians. He has said that the world is ultimately divided into two sorts of people: those who are perishing and those who are being saved (1:18). The former group take a worldly view of the cross of Christ: seeing it as weak and foolish. The latter group take a spiritual view of the cross : seeing it as the power and wisdom of God (1:24). But now Paul has a dilemma! “what group are these Corinthians in??!”. They are Christians—he calls them “brothers” in verse 1. Yet in so many ways they are behaving more like the worldly group than the spiritual group. The cross has had such little impact on their behavior—they are dividing within rather than being perfectly united (1:10) in the cross of Jesus. So Paul settles on this title for them: “INFANTS IN CHRIST” (3:1). They are Christians but barely walking as Christians should, united in the ONE PURPOSE God has given us in the cross.

Wow this series of talks continues to impact me greatly,so often were quite happy to stay in the infant state of mind with our relationship with God, but is this healthy?
My brothers and sisters is this series from Gods word having an impact in your day to day life if so it would be nice to see some other comments about the talks it is great to hear others growing in maturity in Christ.

    Hi Trevor,

Thanks for your comments and your encouragement in talking about how God’s word is impacting on our lives.

For me… sometimes i can get so caught up in what i am doing (especially in Sound Ministry) that i forget about who i am actually serving or should be serving…God.

Steve’s talk about “One Purpose” especially hit me hard in this area and in all areas of my life. Am i serving others more than myself and my own selfish ways? I am consciously aware that i am serving Christ when i speak to others about him and serve in our church?

I think i need to sit down and have a hard look at my life and the way I serve. I need to make sure that my serving is all about God and that my conversations be centered on Christ and what he has done on the cross.

I need to make sure that i remember that i am serving the one true and living God and turn away from my selfish ways and what i want to serve God’s purpose by serving and loving others.
