Thanks for the question David. As a starting point I would suggest Ephesians 5:32, in Paul's discussion of marriage there:

"This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church".

The 'aloneness' of Genesis was addressed through God's good gift of marriage, providing a bride for his his son Adam. However this was merely a symbol and forerunner of God's ultimate plan to prepare a bride for his son Jesus. This is the eternal marriage (see Revelation 21-22) in heaven that all Christians, married or single are bethrothed to.

That is the ultimate solution to our aloneness: to find our identity, security and purpose in Jesus, and to be lovingly devoted to him. Christian friendship is a fantastic part of that, because together we are the bride and body of Christ.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the talks on 1 Cor 7. I was wondering if you could comment on Gen. 2:18 "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." in light of what we have seen in 1 Cor 7 regarding contentment. I have read some comments on this saying that marriage is not the solution to loneliness, but friendship is. Do you think this is right?
