Wade Iedema spoke to us from 1 Corinthians 16:5-24.  In the light of the love of Jesus and the hope we have in him, giving ourselves fully to the work of the Lord not only follows Paul’s example but many in the early church who joyfully devoted themselves to such work.

Key Verse

“But I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost, because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.”

1 Corinthians 16:8-9

Thanks for the talk Wade. Let me say publically how much I’ve appreciated the work you have put into SCPC, and what a good role model your whole family has been. I have counted myself blessed to have had your imput (amongst many others) into the kids ministry that has made going to church fun and gospel focussed for our boys in particular. Thanks also for the exhortation to “be a man” as this week’s passage literally says. It is all to easy to let things slide and just become more like the typical Aussie bloke and shirk our God given responsibilities. I pray that your move goes well and it is reassuring that one day we will see you again in the new creation.

  • but of course, we’ll hope to see you sooner than then too!

  • Thanks for the encouragement David. It’s been a real privilege to serve our church family. Your boys have been a great blessing to teach.

This passage was really a challenge to me too. It isn’t easy to be a godly man in this world, but then again that’s what being a man is all about – showing character and leading while toughing it out and being strong in the Lord. Thankfully we have such a great example of what it means to be a godly man. In the Lord Jesus Christ we see the One who never compromised the truth and who was obedient to the point of death.

and Pete, yeah hope to see you sooner than that too – but I have to say “Come Lord Jesus!”
