Growup: Day 343

Heb 5:1-8:13

Hope is an important thing isn’t it. It helps us to stay motivated, to keep pressing on. Yet there is a huge difference between this world’s hope and the solid, immovable hope of the Bible.

The world’s hope, is based on the unpredictable like:

I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow? We know this is faulty, unlikely even, in Lismore impossible infact!!!!

The Christian hope, is based on Jesus:

19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. Heb 6:19-20

So we have this hope, firm, secure. Brothers and sisters no matter what may come our way we have Jesus and so we have hope. A hope that transforms us, a hope that changes our aspirations, our minds, our hearts, our everything. A hope that not even death can take from us.

Here’s a song that is quickly making it in to my funeral song list (not that I am looking at dropping off the perch at any time soon… God willing). I love these lyrics, helping me know of Jesus mighty work for me:

a confident sinner

eternally holy

approaching his throne

where Christ is for me

  1. David says:

    Hi Stew,

I don’t have any plans on leaving this earth soon either (God willing) but I’d like this song to be played at my funeral – “It is not death to die”. You can listen to the song and read the words at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSKN6UnHUmA. WARNING – have tissues handy if you watch the Youtube clip!
