Food for Thought Dinner

With only a week to go till our first Food for Thought dinner, you may still be wondering what it’s about and who you should invite.
These dinners, which we’ll be holding every 6 months, are designed to open up opportunities with our non-Christian friends, family, colleagues and neighbours for friendly discussion of ideas that matter.
Each night will include:
– a time to circulate and meet others over a a drink
– a short activity like a quiz as a lighthearted way to introduce the topic
– a meal
– a 10-15 minute talk on the topic
– discussion of the topic at tables over dessert
Our first dinner is on next Tuesday night at Lismore Heights Bowling Club. From 6:30 for a 7pm meal. Cost is $20 per person, payable on the night. If the cost would make it difficult for you to invite a friend, please let us know and we’ll be able to help.
The topic for our first dinner is “The Importance of Doubt”. Here are a couple of quotes from the talk to whet your appetite and spark your thinking as to which of your friends you should invite:

Every single one of us in this room is a person of faith. every single one of us in this room… we trust things…  we believe things… we have faith in things… But along with our small faiths all of us have big faiths too…  big beliefs… big beliefs in the big questions of life.

So here’s the importance of doubt that I want us to chew on tonight… Its really important that we doubt what we believe. Because doubt helps us to figure out if our beliefs are reasonable…  if they make sense… Its really important that what we put our trust in is trustworthy.

If you’d like to bring a friend along or even just come along yourself in order to get a feel for who you could invite to future dinners, please RSVP to Bronwyn at the church office (bronwyn@scpc.org.au) ASAP to reserve your seat. Thanks!
