The Pastors’ Post

Here is a short video from one of our pastors, Stew, as he talks about life at SCPC this week.

Welcome to The Pastors’ Post an update about life at Southern Cross. On Wednesday this week, our special guest in The Lounge Room was former deputy Prime Minister, John Anderson, who joined us on ZOOM. John’s warmth, depth of character, integrity and Christian conviction was evident. In his time, he shared with us his passion for civil freedom and freedom of conscience. He also reflected with us on the prayers that filled his life as he led our nation as Acting Prime Minister through the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He closed his time with us outlining what he would say if he found himself across the road in country NSW where he lives and his neighbour asked him: what must he do to be saved? He described a clear, winsome explanation of Christ crucified. It was brilliant!

Now this weekend is our AGM. Three letters that could see some people turn around and run the opposite direction! But our Leadership Team and Committee of Management encourage you not to run, but to come. Come to hear about how we seek to enact our mission at Southern Cross through our generosity. The Budget we presented at our Congregational meeting last November will be re-presented so there shouldn’t be any surprises. And yet it won’t surprise you that our budget is our operating budget and doesn’t capture everything we aspire towards so please consider how you can give towards our budget and also grow our generosity to support our vision at Southern Cross Presbyterian Church.

Finally, this weekend is our last time with Linda. I have loved having Linda with us and our Equip night with her on Tuesday was superb. If you missed it, chat to someone who was there and ask them to tell you a story: about a short man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, wealthy, cheat! Please pray for Linda as she prepares to return to Taiwan later this year.

Let me close with what this short man, Zacchaeus, receives in the end of his encounter with Jesus. From Luke 19:7-10:

7 All the people saw this and began to mutter,
“He (Jesus) has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,
“Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything,
I will pay back four times the amount.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house,
because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.
10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Thanks for tuning into The Pastors’ Post.
