This week’s Bible Talk took us to Ephesians 2:1-10 where we saw that in all he does, God acts in complete freedom.  This mean that our salvation rests on God’s GRACE alone – the free, precious gift of Jesus who by his death has washed us clean.

Ezra 1:1-4:23

It appears that it was just as hard, if not harder, to get a development application (DA) back in Ezra’s day as it is today.

Israel’s history is rarely smooth sailing. But through it all God remains faithful and the people know that God is good.

11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD :
“He is good;
his love to Israel endures forever.”
And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

Please pray for myself and our church family that we would see God’s faithfulness and love in Jesus – and that we would know deep in our hearts that God is good and his love for us endures forever.

Isaiah 60-64

6 All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

7 No one calls on your name
or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us
and made us waste away because of our sins.

8 Yet, O LORD, you are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.

9 Do not be angry beyond measure, O LORD;
do not remember our sins forever.
Oh, look upon us, we pray,
for we are all your people.

10 Your sacred cities have become a desert;
even Zion is a desert, Jerusalem a desolation.

11 Our holy and glorious temple, where our fathers praised you,
has been burned with fire,
and all that we treasured lies in ruins.

12 After all this, O LORD, will you hold yourself back?
Will you keep silent and punish us beyond measure?

Do you realise how great it is that JESUS put on flesh and blood and died and rose?

I don’t think I do.

Obadiah and Isaiah 40:1-41:29

Sorry for the late entry – had a bit of man flu this morning.

Not really sure what all of today’s reading is all about. However in the midst of judgment it seemed to be pointing out just how good the real God is. I found the following verses refreshing.

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Jeremiah 47:1 – 49:22

Judgement, Judgement, Judgement….

The nations around Israel are about to cop it.

At the hands of the Lord, because of their sin and their treatment of Israel.

47:7  But how can it rest when the LORD has commanded it, when he has ordered it to attack Ashkelon and the coast?”

48:26-27  Make her drunk, for she has defied the LORD. Let Moab wallow in her vomit; let her be an object of ridicule. Was not Israel the object of your ridicule? Was she caught among thieves, that you shake your head in scorn whenever you speak of her?

49:1-2  1 Concerning the Ammonites: This is what the LORD says: ”Has Israel no sons? Has she no heirs? Why then has Molech taken possession of Gad? Why do his people live in its towns? 2 But the days are coming,” declares the LORD, ”when I will sound the battle cry against Rabbah of the Ammonites; it will become a mound of ruins, and its surrounding villages will be set on fire. Then Israel will drive out those who drove her out,” says the LORD.

Praise God that gentiles (non -Jews) like me can be forgiven for our rejection of God, through God putting on flesh and taking the punishment that I/we deserve.

This week’s Bible Talk took us to Galatians 6 where we saw as Sons of God we are new creations, therefore we must only boast in Christ.
