Did you see the ’smiley’ in the sky last night as Jupiter, Venus and the crescent moon made a rare line-up? Here’s our photo of it from our front balcony. Hopefully you can make out the smile, sitting above the lights of Lismore.
It made me think, for some reason, of one of my all-time favourite [...]

Come Back to Your Senses
December 1st, 2008 · No Comments
I’ve had a few requests for the pictures I used on Sunday in relation to 1 Corinthians 15:34 “Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning…”. The tendency of bible verse posters to be cute and comfy rather than challenging is perhaps the picture that tells a thousand words about our comfortable [...]

Lights off, Light on

I noticed the Northern Star newspaper is running a ‘turn off your lights for the planet’ campaign. The idea is that everyone turns off their lights next Wednesday November 26 for half an hour at 8pm. I think you can leave the telly on, although there’s probably nothing worth watching.
As Christians we have every [...]

My Part in Connect09
November 18th, 2008 · No Comments
Connect09 has already begun and on Sunday we heard about what it means for each of us to play a part in our mission to Lismore.
Part of that mission will include looking through and filling out a booklet called “my part in connect09” which most of you should now have. If you haven’t received a [...]

Steve Cree spoke to us from Acts 2:29-47. God is still adding to the number of those being saved through the witness of his church to the reality of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Key Verse
“The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off - for all whom the Lord our [...]

Good News at the Pump

I can remember blogging about the rising price of petrol back in May. This morning I have sent off the piece below as a letter to the Northern Star, in view of the imminent fall in petrol prices. I suppose the message of both pieces is much the same though. Rise or fall, you wouldn’t [...]

The Weight of Expectation

It was hard not to be a little misty-eyed listening to Barack Obama’s victory speech last night. It is truly an amazing ‘moment’ in history we are witnessing as the U.S.A. has elected its first African-American president.
We need to be prayerful for him, and for other world leaders including our own here in Australia. They [...]

Steve Cree spoke to us from 1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13. The key to playing your part in the body of Christ is less to do with what gifts you have and more to do with the attitude and character you have in how you use them. The key issue is love - loving like Jesus.
Key Verse
And [...]

SCPC Podcast: One Body Talk 2, One Body Many Parts
October 26th, 2008 · No Comments
Steve Cree spoke to us from 1 Corinthians 12:12-26. In our sinfulness, our differences can lead to divisions and pride. God’s design for us, like the human body, is that differences lead to interdependence and service.
Key Verse
The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are [...]

Steve Cree commenced our term 4 series speaking from 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. The Spirit has gifted each of us differently. But this is not for our own benefit: the gifts are for the good of others. This diversity enriches our ability to have one focus: proclaiming Jesus as Lord.
Key Verse
Now to each one the manifestation [...]
