Well we’re almost there – 2012 is about to dawn. What will it look like for you? I reckon most of us look at a new year a bit like a fresh chance or a clean slate on which to start over. The frenzy of Christmas is behind us, the calendar is clear and the future seems full of possibilities. It’s a pretty cool feeling!
But as the clock strikes midnight tomorrow night, will anything really change? See the problem with every new year’s resolution I’ve ever made (and I wouldn’t mind betting the same goes for you) is that it’s the same old me making the resolution! The 2012 version of Pete Thompson is likely to be just as inconsistent, faithless, distracted & easily overwhelmed as the 2011 model. In short, I’m not the kind of guy who’s likely to stick too long with any new year’s resolutions! I’ll still make them of course – better to have tried and failed than to never have tried at all – but I WILL fail.
And this is why I’m SO grateful that God’s grace to me in Jesus will be just as available in 2012 as I know it has been in 2011. I’ll fail, but he won’t. He persevered all the way to the cross for me. I can trust him. He will lift me up when I fall, forgive me when I confess and strengthen me for the journey ahead.
So all-in-all, 2012 should be a pretty good year!

Over the weekend we are looking at the topic “Don’t be sold a lemon”. As a young fella growing up I made some very foolish choices by believing people who sold me a lemon. Now in life while this can be disappointing and can affect us for the rest of our lives (worse case scenario), but what would be worse would be to believe a lie, ‘to be sold a lemon’, which affects our eternal well being, that would be truly tragic! Over the weekend we are going to look at God’s Word and see how we can avoid making the foolish error, how we can avoid being ‘sold the lemon’ this world tries to sell us.

Over the weekend some members of our gospel community helped to serve the members of Ballina Presbyterian Church by running a kids program for their church camp. It was a great way for our gospel community to spend time together for some very appreciative brothers and sisters in Christ in Ballina.
We spent time with the kids looking at the C. S. Lewis book ‘The Loin the Witch and the Wardrobe’ from the Narnia series. We saw that just as Aslan gave up his life for the betrayal of Edmund, Jesus gave up his life for our betrayal. It was a great time for the kids, the adults and our gospel community.
I mean we even got to boogie with’ Sir Dance-a-lot’… (aka Tim Mc Donald)
Just a reminder that on Sunday (6th November) we’ll be meeting in the MPU (otherwise known as ‘the shed’) see map below – you can park where you normally do and walk over or use the Dalley Street entrance carpark.
Also if its warm, we’ll be having a ‘drinks break’ at half time in the morning service!
