Website Procedures
Important Notes for Blogging
- Please do not copy and paste content from any application or website other than notepad and the Southern Cross website itself. If you want to copy text from another application please paste it into notepad first, copy it again and paste it into the post.
- Please do not add any additional Post Categories. Feel free to add as many tags as you wish but categories should be kept as they are.
- If posts are put into the ‘Events’, ‘SCPC Music’ or ‘Site Gallery’ categories, they will not appear on the front page.
Blog Posts
- Login to wordpress (click login on the bottom right)
- Using the top menu, click add new Post
- Populate the Title, Content and Tags (optional)
- Click preview to verify that it displays correctly on the page
- Click Publish
Adding a featured (sidebar) Item
- Create a new post with:
- Title
- Content (it will appear on the front page)
- A small excerpt
- Upload an image (168 x 168) and click “Use as featured image“
- Tick the category “Featured“
Music Items
- Create a blog post as per above but also do the following:
- Set the category ‘SCPC Music’. This will make it display under the music section.
- Place the cursor in the content where you want the audio player.
- Click the Add Audio icon above the content editor
- Browse and upload the music piece
- Click on ‘Audio Player’ then click ‘Insert into Post’.
- Preview and Publish
Talks
Note: This needs to be updated by David Robert (MP3 encoding and uploading)
- Step 1: Upload the talk:
- Using an ftp client (Filezilla) login to ftp.southerncrosscpc.org with:
username: talks@scpc.org.au
password: S___T____## (as provided) - Copy the talk (this will take a while) to the root folder with the others.
- Using an ftp client (Filezilla) login to ftp.southerncrosscpc.org with:
- Step 2: Create a sermon entry:
- Login tousing the link at the bottom of the right sidebar
- In the top menu click ‘Add New’ – ‘Sermon’
- Beside ‘Choose existing file’ select the newly uploaded file and click ‘select’.
- Populate the fields. For drop down entries, select ‘Create new ..’ if no option suits.
- Place the talk summary, key verse and outline into the description field.
- Once complete, click save. The talk should appear on the home page.
- Step 3: Create a blog post (To be finalised):
- Create a new blog post with the title: ‘Bible Talk: talk title‘
- Select The correct template from ‘Article Templates’ and modify the link.
- The talk link can be obtained from the front page under ‘Recent Talks’ by right-clicking the talk title and ‘copy link / shortcut’.
Hey DK, how do you remove or edit something in the what’s on sidebar? I want to replace crossroads (which is finished) with the marriage course (which is still going).
