some changes ahead for EC

In case you weren’t at church on Sunday, it was announced that we (Peter Yock and Katharine Crossle) are engaged – news we are excited to share with our church family, and we’d love for you to pray with us as we prepare for marriage.

While it is happy news, it is also news we are sad to be sharing with you, because there are obvious consequences for Katharine’s ministry with the uni students at Evangelical Christians (EC).  Peter has planned for a while now to move to Brisbane in 2011 so he can study at bible college (QTC).  Given that we’re planning to marry, we’ve decided that Katharine will also move to Brisbane in January – so she will finish working with EC at the end of 2010.

This decision has been one which has been very difficult for us – Katharine in particular is grieving over how this changes her relationships with the EC students.  The shape of EC’s ministry with female students on campus will necessarily change in 2011, however we are also certain of God’s sovereignty in all things, knowing that his gospel will be proclaimed on campus and students will continue to grow in him.  There won’t be a new female AFES staffworker to replace Katharine in 2011, but Akos and the students will begin the process of searching for someone to fill this position.

We’d like to now thank all of you at SCPC for your support of EC and Katharine’s ministry with students over the last two years.  Thank you for your prayers and financial support which has made it possible for her to serve on campus.  If you have been financially supporting Katharine through AFES, we’ll contact you shortly to let you know how these changes impact you and how you can continue to support AFES ministry at SCU.
