The Pastors’ Post

Here is a short video from one of our pastors, Stew, as he talks about life at SCPC this week.

Below is the text from the video:

Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update for life at Southern Cross in these confusing and chaotic days.

Many of you would be aware, last Sunday 2nd August, Gladys Berejiklian, the NSW premier made the announcement and encouragement towards the use of face masks in NSW. On Monday, we purchased a supply of face masks for this Sunday 9th August, to be made available for those who gather.

This is an understood but added restriction that makes it a challenge for us in our gatherings.  And yet while there’s the provision there for us to meet in our multiplied locations through legislation, and in consultation with our health consultants at SCPC, we will gather over this weekend 9th August. And yet, as you can expect, it is a week to week decision.

Join us if you feel comfortable this Sunday the 9th August, face masks will be made available. Or I know of others who this week have been making face masks to better express themselves and bring a bit of life and colour to the room. You can go onto government websites that explain how to go about making them at home. Masks will also be provided at the Women’s Event tomorrow at Park Ave.

We have been able to extend our leases in our locations at Wyrallah Road Public, Lismore Scouts and Girl Guides halls, for an additional three weeks: Aug 16, Aug 23 and Aug 30. Our meeting with the LHS executive was rescheduled by the school to next Tuesday 11th Aug which will provide us some idea of usage at Lismore High in the future, pending restrictions.

I will be present at the Scout Hall this Sunday 9th August and look forward to seeing those who will feel comfortable to gather there. It will be broadcast over ZOOM and the webinar will start at 9:45 so that will include the leading, Ian Coutts will be leading at the Scout hall this Sunday.

We’re confident we have overcome some of the sound issues from last Sunday. For those who struggled to hear the talk from last Sunday 2nd August, a video of the talk has been re-recorded and is available here.

Over the last three months I have been reading this book from Matthias Media called ‘Thank God for Bedtime’. Such an unusual title, and yet I have found it hugely helpful and fascinating. Listen to how relevant it is for some of our thinking in the midst of COVID:

All our efforts and all our stressed sleepless nights will produce nothing lasting and nothing meaningful if God is not at work in us and through us, but he doesn’t need us. Humanity’s best laid plans will come to nothing if God decides things will turn out differently.

Wow! Didn’t things turn out differently in 2020!?

Now, let me read from Psalm 127 and verses 1-2:

1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat –
for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Sleep well this weekend!

Thanks for tuning in to The Pastors’ Post.
