Welcome to this week’s Pastors’ Post. I hope you’re enjoying our journey through the Bible this term as we see God’s wonderful salvation plan unfold throughout history.
This Sunday, we continue the series in Luke chapter 1 so tune in (or rather, Zoom in) for that. Well, we’ve had to quickly re-learn the world of Zoom this past week haven’t we? And I’m so grateful to those in our church family who are a little more tech savvy than me, for organising and setting things up. If you’re a bit uneasy about Zoom, I’m with you – but hang in there! As God’s people here in Lismore and Goonellabah, through faith in Jesus, isn’t it so comforting to know that God really is in control, He really is good and faithful to his promises. No matter what difficulties head our way, Jesus has won the battle, he’s overcome our sin, and he has secured our place in his glorious kingdom.
That’s the good news that continues to go out. It goes out as we love each other, as we keep encouraging each other through text, or phone calls or Zoom or FaceTime, or even socially distanced over the fence, or across the road. So, we’ll be Zooming again this Sunday at 10am and 6pm AND the following Sunday 29th. The link is on the website – you probably scrolled right past it to get here. Planning ahead can be a difficult task at the best of times but at the moment, it’s quite tricky. But that’s what our staff team are doing. We’re regularly Zooming in together to organise Celebration Sunday, it’s only a few weeks away, and we’re hoping for an opportunity to be together, if possible. So the plan this year is to gather at Lismore City Hall on Sunday 12th September, kicking off at 10am. Above all, this Celebration Sunday, just like every other year, we want to be sharing our stories of how God continues to do His work in our lives and through us, reaching out in love for others.
Now, something you can do to prepare is to creatively portray your story on your calico square: a story from your life where you have seen God at work. Draw, paint, sew or glue something which will add to all of our stories to create something really cool for Celebration Sunday. I was going to weld something to mine, but I don’t think it would survive. So, Celebration Sunday is one to wait for, but not too long.
But for now, I hope you can join us this Sunday. Please love each other by abiding by restrictions to keep everyone safe and to minimise this lockdown period, all the while trusting in the One who is over and above it all.
In Ephesians chapter 4 verses 1 to 3, Paul encourages believers:
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
