The Pastors’ Post

Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update for life at Southern Cross.

How did your Food for Thought week go?! Last night, our Gospel Community checked out the newly renovated Sherwood Hotel in Molesworth St. I’d be interested to hear what you all did so we can share ideas for next time. Well tonight, our speaker for Food for Thought Sunday, Mikey Tai from Providence Church in Brisbane, will be preaching at our Youth meeting tonight. Please pray for those youth who invited friends, that they wouldn’t be disheartened if friends chose not to come or were unable to attend. And for those that do attend that they might be open to listen to God’s Word the Bible, that the Holy Spirit might be at work in their hearts to enable them to truly look into the claims of Jesus. Wouldn’t it be great if they were there to join us for one of our gatherings at the Workers’ Club on Sunday: 9:15am, 11:15am or 6pm.

Do you have anyone coming? It can be tricky can’t it? Knowing how to go about it, when to invite: one month out, one week out, or one day out? I have been reading a little provocative book by Sam Chan called How to talk about Jesus (without being THAT guy). Sam has some great little insights and one of his tips is this: to not ‘over-function’ in the task before us. As in, we can’t plan everything for our friends and family and try to craft all the events of their life to see them get along to something like Food for Thought Sunday. Nor should we ‘under-function’: think it is all just too hard, ‘my friends wouldn’t be interested’. He suggests do all that you can do is to be warm, personable, make the invite. We can’t control their response so rest knowing you’ve have done your bit and then rest in the fact that our God, our Father is the One who opens hearts! How cool is that!!

And to borrow from Linda’s line from Equip 1, this was just ‘one link in the chain’.

Keep inviting, keep loving, keep sharing, keep helping, keep praying, keep giving, keep investing, keep being a good in friend.

Finally, three things:

ONE: Pray that our Father God would do ‘his thing’ and open hearts!!

TWO: Register on the SCPC website for Food for Thought Sunday, this Sunday.

THREE: If you are at the 9:15am session, book your table at the Reflections Café for morning tea at 10:30/10:45am. If you are at the 11:15am session, book at Cedar’s Bistro at 12:30pm/12:45pm. If you are at the 6pm session, book at Cedar’s Bistro for 7:15pm/7:30pm.

Absolutely can’t wait to see you and your friends this Sunday!!!

Let me read to you from 2 Corinthians 4 this Sunday:

4 Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
