The Pastors’ Post

Welcome to The Pastors’ Post, an update for life at Southern Cross.

Term 3 begins in a space we have faced before under some form of restrictions! After welcoming the children back into the main hall at Lismore High School at our 9:45am church family gathering for a precious few weeks, sadly we now have to see them return to a parallel program due to a cap in the hall of one hundred and eleven people.

And following Gladys Berejiklian’s announcement during the week for an extension of the Sydney lockdown we anticipate the restrictions we face in regional NSW will continue until Friday 30th July. Therefore, during the week I met with a member of our SCPC health team to explore how we appropriately respond to restrictions for regional NSW over the next fortnight.

One of the biggest challenges for us will be the return of DNAs in the coming week with a limit to 5 persons visiting a residence. It may not have too great an impact on some Gospel Communities, for others it will have some form of effect. We explored the option of the meeting room in the office at Park Ave, and we are in a position to offer that room for DNAs. Those meeting, will fall under the category of a public indoor meeting so face masks would be required. Have your Vision Coordinator liaise with the staff team so your DNA can be added to the Google calendar to ensure the space is not double booked.

Finally, we also discussed Christianity Explored with a start date of next Thursday the 22nd of July and at this point we are still moving to have it hosted at Lismore High. Bronwyn and I are meeting with the Lismore High School executive on July 28th so we will be in a position to renegotiate any further changes required for the remainder of the course.

Finally again, why Christianity Explored? Why every term at Southern Cross in 2021? Included in the post on our website is the trailer for the course and it has the powerful question: “What is the best news you have ever heard?”

How would you answer that question?

Let me read from Mark’s Gospel. Mark 10:45:

45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

It’s the best news isn’t it!?

Thanks for tuning into The Pastors’ Post.
